BARREL FOR THE HIGH SEAS

In the early eighties, the United States, to meet the demand of the yellow fin tuna fishing on the banks of California, aboard a large boat, with five or six railways and contemporary behemoths of 70-100 kilograms fleeing from all sides , the rods were designed specifically designed to pump large prey vertically: the stand-up. The stem of these rods is not only considerably shorter than the traditional ones, given the vertical thrust that has to exercise, but it is, in most cases, of drums breakdown.

The main characteristic that must have is to distribute the power of return of the stem, in proportion to the thrust exerted, contrary to that of the fish. To explain it in words more simply, the drum stand-up does not oppose the prey into fixed power with maximum traction exercised, but the power increases with the curvature of the stem in three or four phases prevalent. This will give a first action of a certain power (eg 12 pounds), usually of the tip, a second (eg 20 pounds) with flexion to three quarters of the drum and a third (es.30 pounds) when the trunk flexes to handle (sometimes even more). In fact, these rods are not usually labeled with a fixed poundage, but with variable power: eg. 12-20, 20-50, 50-80 etc.. The handle, ie the part made of neoprene or similar materials in front of the reel, is much longer than the traditional pipe. This solution proves to be invaluable as the use of these tools in fisheries. The neck is (the part between the reel and the cruise that fits into the fighting belt) is considerably shorter than the handles to use in fighting chair with belts or groin.

ACTION FISHING

In stand-up fishing in the barrel resting on the thighs and the reel is located at the groin, connected to the hooks of the kidney or the jacket. In the action of pumping the arms do not intervene almost at all, but rather is the movement of the body to ensure that the barrel is in an upright position creating the ports pumped. In practice they are doing to bend your knees to take the angler's position "sit" and is the weight of the body to counteract the pull of the fish. The rod is brought near to the fisherman through the jacket or the kidney. Subsequently the barrel, flow in a vertical position, it raddirizza, approaching the prey to the angler. In the fighting also involved with very large prey knees, which help to counteract the pull of the fish, resting against the inner side of the boat and acting as a pivot. From experiments made with a dynamometer, it was found that, if done correctly, the fishing action in stand-up allows the angler to pursue that exert traction on a fighting chair. This is because the pumped taken to extremes, is the weight of the body to counterbalance the fish. It follows that when the height of the pump stroke, the fisherman is fully backward leaning, sitting, ruled only by the grip that imparts a counter force. At this very moment if the line is broken, fails the counteracting force, and the fisherman will inevitably fall back. This event can bring harm not indifferent whether we consider the space of a cockpit is not always easy, even with its dimensions of the boat or fishing gear lying around. The fighting ends in stand-up should, for safety, always conducted with another crew member behind the fisherman, to hold it if you were to break the line. It should also be noted that in some stages of the battle, the fisherman is on the edge of the boat, leaning toward the water. In such conditions, especially if you fight with a large tuna, a hardening improvident clutch can mean falling into the water. Logically, to counterbalance the weight of the fish with your own, you must rely on a tensile strength of the line at least 30 pounds. In the lower classes, the action of stand-up is very small and is pumped with slight flexion of the legs and arms with minimal traction. In the tuna you should start to lead the fight in stand-up, after taking a good confidence with these prey in several battles in the chair.
